Paediatric Orthopaedic Conditions treatment in Lahore

Overview

Children's musculoskeletal systems are fundamentally different from adults' — their bones are still growing, their joints are more flexible, and certain conditions are unique to the paediatric age group. Paediatric orthopaedics requires specialised knowledge of normal development and growth patterns to distinguish between conditions that will resolve spontaneously and those that require active intervention. Early detection and treatment of paediatric orthopaedic conditions can prevent lifelong disability and deformity.

Common Conditions

  • Congenital Talipes Equinovarus (CTEV / Clubfoot) — a congenital foot deformity where the foot points downward and inward
  • Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip (DDH) — abnormal formation of the hip joint, detected in infancy
  • Limb length discrepancy — unequal length of the legs, which may cause limping and back pain
  • Genu valgum / varum — knock-knees and bow-legs, often normal in young children but sometimes requiring treatment
  • Perthes disease — a condition affecting the hip joint in children where blood supply to the femoral head is temporarily disrupted
  • Scoliosis — abnormal sideways curvature of the spine that may progress during growth

Clubfoot Treatment (CTEV)

The Ponseti method is the gold standard for clubfoot treatment and is highly effective when started early. It involves a series of weekly plaster casts that gradually correct the foot position, followed by a minor procedure (tenotomy) to release the Achilles tendon, and then a brace to maintain the correction. Dr. Hannan manages clubfoot using this method, with the goal of achieving a functional, painless foot that allows normal activity. For older children or recurrent cases, surgical correction may be necessary.

Why Early Evaluation Matters

Many paediatric orthopaedic conditions have a narrow window for optimal treatment. Hip dysplasia, for example, is most easily treated in the first few months of life with simple bracing. Clubfoot treatment is most effective when started within the first few weeks after birth. If you notice any abnormality in your child's feet, legs, gait, or spine, early orthopaedic evaluation is recommended to determine whether treatment is needed and to begin it at the most effective time.
